GHP Road Warriors suggested procedures:

·        Cap on total number of cyclists to 25 for safety and health reasons.

·        Stay with 3 groups within the Warrior group gauged on preference that day, ability, distance, speed of ride etc. Maximum numbers per group: 10 cyclists.

·        Group #1: +/- 25 km

·        Group #2: +/- 30 km

·        Group #3: +/- 40 km

·        Appoint a leader for each group to lead the riders safely and keep group together. The leader to be chosen the day of the ride.

·        Bring your own brown bag and refreshments for lunch.

·        Rides and après ride to be all in public venues. (Hosting the group is optional)

·        Safety and rules of the road are paramount (see Safe Riding Skills below)

·        Plan to start the season mid to late April (weather permitting).

·        Meet at 9:45 am – Start riding at 10:00 am – Lunch at Noon – Done by 1:00 pm

·        Sunday rides to be discussed as a twice a week option.

Safe riding skills:

·        When we stop, choose the right place to do so, i.e.:

·        Away from intersections

·        Away from top of hills

·        Find a driveway or clearing so that no riders stop on the road

·        On a busy road, ride single file in a group of 5 maximum

·        Know your hand signals, make them clear and definitive

·        Shoulder check is one of the forgotten safe riding skills

·        The other one is to ride in a simple straight line (not joking)

·        The 3 R’s:

·        Same Roads: You can and should use the roads – not the sidewalks

·        Same Right: You have the right to your space on the road

·        Same Rules: If you want respect, you need to follow the rules. You can’t have it both ways!

·        The 3 A’s:

·        Be Aware of hazards, road conditions, intersections

·        Stay Alert at all times

·        Keep your Attitude in check; If you want to get even with someone, make it the person that treated you with respect, and not the truck driver that passed by you too close for comfort
